Home Sweet Home

After being at Mayo for 3 days, we were ready to get home and see the kids!  We arrived back in Cedar Rapids today around 4:00, just in time to see Braylen before she headed off to her nightly activities; tonights activities included soccer and a birthday party.......she is quite the social butterfly!  This meant the boys and I got some much needed time to hang out, oh and a quick trip out!  Meyer got a new car seat and he thought he was pretty cool - can you tell (don't mind the spaghetti Eric forgot to wipe off his face!?!?)

Today we headed to Mayo Methodist Hospital at 6 AM for the surgery to remove my ovaries.  I am happy to report that everything went great and although they did not suspect the ovaries were cancerous, the initial report is that they are benign!  After spending the last few days there, I completely confident that Mayo is a "well oiled machine!"  The surgery process today was absolutely seamless and the staff was so amazing and fantastic all the way around!  Ironically, my doctor's name was Dr. Glaser so I truly felt in good hands (for all you family, that is her married name and her husband is from the Philadelphia area so no direct relation.)

So, here I am recovering!  A little bit of tightness, but overall very manageable.  Modern technology is such an astonishing thing; who would have thought a procedure of this type could be done laparoscopically and with 3 small incisions!  While it was my initial plan to head back to school when I returned tomorrow, the flood had different plans and we are off the remainder of the week.  This means I get yet another day to recover and hopefully can get in for some professional development on Friday!

Many thanks for all the thoughts and prayers over the last couple of months and especially during the last few days!  Most importantly, thanks to Eric for being an amazing support system!  Having you on my journey has certainly been a blessing and I couldn't have found a better life partner to walk with me side-by-side!  Thanks also to Terri and MaryAnn for taking good care of our kids!  We appreciate you helping us out and allowing the kiddos to still have a sense of normalcy while we are away!

Thanks especially to Erin Martin for your work in ensuring that we are in good hands at Mayo and for being our tour guide!  It was great to enjoy coffee with you Tuesday morning and thanks for the great dinner recommendation!  We look forward to catching up at future visits!

Round 3 starts on Monday, here's to hoping you all have a fantastic weekend!  The road to recovery and remission continues.........we will be back up at Mayo again at the of the month to ensure that the new medicine is working and to start the 4th and final round!

Much love to you all!  Sending prayers to all of you in need of some extra power!
Amy
